This past weekend we totally surprised my mom with a weekend camping party to celebrate her 80th birthday. It was a beautiful weekend and we were
able to enjoy it with our entire family, including all six of our grandchildren. It was a wonderful way to end the summer before heading off. We’ve decided on the basic route we plan to follow and it’s time to hit the road. We’re anxious to visit Gettysburg, DC, Williamsburg, the Outer banks and Charleston among other places as we head south to Florida where we’ll spend the better part of the winter. We’ll be making stops in St. Augustine and Disney World as we continue south to Miami where we’ll watch the Patriots play in Miami Stadium. We’ll hang around Miami through the end of December so that we can be at the beach with our feet in the sand for Christmas. We’ll be in Key West for New Year’s Eve. We discovered that the Key West version of ringing in the New Year is a 6 foot red shoe with a drag queen aboard descending into the crowd on Duval Street. Sure sounds like fun to us! After this, our plans are more open ended but we do know we’ll be leaving Florida and heading west along the southern border of the US, stopping wherever we like. We plan to arrive in San Diego mid-March and then take our time heading north through California, Oregon and Washington. After that, it’ll be a drive through several national parks in the Canadian Rockies before we reach our ultimate goal of Dawson Creek in British Columbia mid-June to meet up with the other RVers who will join us on our 48 day RV tour through Alaska. One of the best parts of this whole adventure will be the places and stops along the way that we haven’t even thought about or know about yet. We’ll eventually be back home by next Labor Day to reunite with family and friends. Of course we’ll miss everyone as we travel but we’re anxious to get started and to share our adventures. We hope you’ll check back with us and we’ll do our best to keep our site as updated as possible. It’s time to hit the road. Oh yeah!!!! Ed
